Day 6 - Hand Drawn Feelings

Day Six Transcript

Hello again lovely you it's Emma we are on day six so what can you write to put on your little piece of paper in Magic Box today? Let's write something like what am I feeling?

So what you're gonna need for this is and press pause while you get them sorted, just a pen, some pencils, a piece of paper, coloured crayons, felt tips anything, press pause and then come back.

So now you've got your supplies ready, all I want you to do is get a sheet of A4 paper lined up plain and take your non-dominant hand and put it down on the piece of paper. Spread it out because we're going to draw around your hand. Close your eyes for a moment and feel the paper under your hand. Gently press and release your hands in a couple of times, expand your fingers. Expand, release, expand, release.

Now take a couple of breaths and your pen or pencil of paper and just trace around your hand on the piece of paper. Feel the sensation, as it moves around the contour of your fingers. Feels quite strange. When you're ready, take your piece of paper, have a look at it.

Go within again and think what am I feeling right now? What could I be feeling like today? If you're not sure there's something to help you, in the Day 6 Post you will find a feelings wheel.

We have primary emotions that we've got easy access to, predominantly happy, sad, frightened and angry. But there's also different levels of primary emotions, and when we get more in touch with what we're truly feeling, we gain awareness, get more wisdom and confidence and wisdom. I'm feeling resentful, I'm feeling happy, I'm feeling grateful, I'm feeling overjoyed. The more we can whittle it down, the further you can get to the outside of that feeling. More self awareness, which increases your emotional intelligence.

So press pause. Thinking about, what am I feeling today? How do we tap into these feelings. I might shake my body. I think, have I got any tension areas? What does that tension feel like? I might give it a colour. Red to me means a burning or an anger. If it's green, it's calm. Use these cues to get you in touch with that feeling. When you've got a name for that feeling, I want you to take your coloured pens or your pencils and colour in your hand. This is inner child work, it's creative, it builds resilience. It's really interesting work to explore.

So what could you put inside that hand that would represent how you're feeling at the minute? How can you honor that feeling? This is self validation as well. It literally ticks about 10 different personal development boxes. Please try. And it might feel a bit curious if you haven't done this before, but if you remember from your early days at school, going around your hand was probably one of the first activities that you did, learning about a lot of things that we learned, preschool and early years school. So you can see this really touches on a lot of different aspects and also gets you truly in touch.

We would love you to share, so please consider uploading photographs of your artwork. Don't forget to put the date on. This is a nice little thing to reflect back on so these can be useful. Also, in the reverse, you might want to write it about what you're feeling. Might want to do some journaling, just some kind of free writing, or something like that, to say a little bit more about what was going on for you. Also, you can do a video sharing with the group, hold up your picture, tell us what it's about you're going to get out of this month. Always work to your comfort level but  consider leaning into it and just gently surrender into it. And a little bit more and a little bit more.

See you next time.
